There were two big events this week: the British Studies field trip to Belvoir Castle and the Southwell Workhouse, and the Talent Show.
The British Studies field trip was this past Wednesday, March 5th. We boarded the coaches at 8 and first went to Belvoir Castle (pronounced Beaver, not Belvoir. Why? I haven't a clue). The castle is, quite literally, stunningly beautiful. And it's still lived in, too. Imagine living in the rooms pictured below! Of course, this was only half of the castle, since the other half is the actual residence of the Duke and Duchess and their family. Still, the half we saw is simple astounding.
From the castle, we headed back to Harlaxton for lunch and a lecture and then out to the Southwell Workhouse, which was quite grim (and freezing) in comparison.
The other main even of the week was the Talent Show. There were quite a few numbers, but only a handful were really good. Josh and Rachel did the dance from Dirty Dancing, which was great, partly because they're both great dancers (Rachel is majoring in dance).
There was also balloon animals, Hallelujah performed by Elise and Stephen Mills, and then "Josh-Joe and Joe-Josh." All in all, a jolly good time, and well worth skipping work-study (with permission).
