Today was the British Studies field trip to London. We went to the National Gallery and the National Portrait Gallery in the morning. It was a bit interesting, but I'm usually not someone people should take to museums. I tend to not enjoy them very much. There was some great paintings in there, but, especially since we were required to look at certain images, it just got kind of boring.
We ate lunch on the steps of St. Martin of the Fields since it was a gorgeous day--mid-fifties and sunny!!--and then walked to our guided tour of St. Paul's Cathedral. Dr. Owen was my guide this time. I think I prefer Bujak.
The Cathedral was beautiful, but it didn't really feel like a place of worship to me. It felt more like a museum. Plus, we weren't allowed to take pictures. So the images you see of the inside were snuck on my cell phone, which is why the quality is so much worse. In any case, I don't think I'll ever pay the 8 lbs. 50 to get back into the cathedral. What the point? I've already seen it and it's not like I'll ever have any photos to commemorate the thing.
From St. Paul's we bought our tickets to Blood Brothers, and then went to Harrods. It is unfathomable to me why some people would spend $1,000 on a shirt. Disgusting. But there were some GORGEOUS dresses there. I would totally wear one of those, even for just one night, if I didn't have to pay for it. We then ate dinner at a Chinese restaurant in Chinatown, which was delicious, even though I could only have prawns, since it was Friday, and then we went over to the Phoenix Theater for our show.
Blood Brothers was a very good musical, although it was most definitely a tragedy. I cried through half of the second act, and part of the first act, too. If you have the chance, go and see it. On our way back to the coach, we stopped and got some gelato, and showed Dr. Kingsley where the gelato place was in exchange for directions to the coach. We arrived back at Harlaxton at around 2:00. I was so ready for sleep.
